| On Tuesday, February 24, 2004, President
Bush
called for a Constitutional Amendment that would prohibit Same-Sex
Marriages in America. |
It would compel Scooter and I to make an
impromptu drive to San Francisco City Hall, where, 12 days earlier, the City
and County became the first jurisdiction to officially marry Same-Sex
couples. |
The road trip was over 600 miles and 11
hours. Due to the crush of applicants, the Marriage License office
changed to a appointment-only system just 24 hours before our trip. We
had no appointment. |

 |
| Due to some wonderful people in
the Office of Neighborhood Services, we were squeezed in. |
Scooter turned in our license
application, and we were the 3,123'rd same-sex couple to be granted a
license to marry. |
The
grand rotunda of City Hall was our place of marriage. The place
was full of wonderful volunteer witnesses, attendants, and officials. |

| The happy couple showing off our
rings -- which we actually exchanged once before at our Holy Union on
December 27th, 2001 in Portland. |
Although February 25th will be
the recorded date of our wedding, our union on December 27th -- in front of
family and friends -- will be our primary celebration. |
Scooter and I are happy to
register our love for one another and our statement that no government
should ever decide who should marry whom! |
